Visit the Rhône by bus, boat or bike
Discover the Rhône by bus, boat or bike! You can choose to visit Lyon in a double-decker bus or on an electrically assisted bike, see the Beaujolais region by bus or take a river cruise on the Saône or Rhône.

Horseback riding:
Just twenty minutes from Lyon, in the heart of the Monts d'Or area: from €42 to €450, depending on the type of trip (with or without a guide and from one to five days).

A great idea: Satobus Alpes
Throughout the year, shuttle buses connect the Lyon - Saint-Exupéry airport to the main alpine ski resorts. Students benefit from a 25% reduction in Satobus rates. Ask for information at the airport or visit www.altibus.com. On this site, you can reserve your ticket from an SNCF train station to 60 alpine ski resorts.

Weekend outings and festivals

The region features numerous festivals (Jazz à Vienne, Printemps de Pérouges, Woodstower, etc.) and a variety of other events. There are also many trips and excursions from Lyon. It won’t be hard to come up with an idea for an enjoyable weekend!

Regional festivals

Cities near Lyon (and even a bit further away) propose well-known and much-appreciated cultural events. Here are some of the many possibilities!

Jazz à Vienne
June-July: 30 years of jazz and jazz-inspired music at an internationally famous festival (30 minute drive from Lyon)
Le Printemps de Pérouges
June: French and international singing stars in an unusual setting (45-minute drive)
Woodstower
September: thirty hours of concerts and shows at Miribel Jonage Park (20-minute drive)
Musilac :
July: each year, the festival of Aix-les-Bains features both well-known entertainers and new talents on the banks of the Lac du Bourget (one and a quarter-hour drive)
Paroles et musiques (lyrics and music)
May: festival of songs from France and French-speaking countries at Saint-Etienne (50 minutes from Lyon)
Annecy International Animated Film Festival
June: 50 years of animated films make this a not-to-be-missed event on a worldwide level (one and a half hours from Lyon)
Les tribuzical
The 2011edition of this festival will be held in September at L'Arbresle and will feature two days of concerts with well-known names and up-and-coming performers at an affordable price. (30 minute drive from Lyon)
Foreztival
End of August: all types of musical styles are featured at these open-air concerts at an attractive price (one hour and twenty minutes from Lyon)

Many students on campus are not from Lyon but from cities in the region. Some of them return home every weekend. Visiting them and their families is a good way to get to know the area around Lyon, in particular the countryside!

A few ideas for outings in the region:

Les Dombes Located on the Route des Etangs to the northeast of Lyon, this area is home to a bird sanctuary, the Villars-les-Dombes Ornithological Park, with around 250 different species. (a 45-minute drive from Lyon)

Pérouges is a medivial city to be visited (30min).

The Parc Naturel du Pilat (Pilat nature park) has 1,500 km of marked trails (one hour from Lyon)

The gorges de l’Ardèche (3h)
Stone houses, small squares, narrow streets and waterways for canoes and swimming.

The Lubéron region and the Mediterranean, with Marseille and its many calanques, or coves (two and a half to three hours from Lyon).

Ski resorts in the Alps:
On average, it takes two to two and a half hours to get to the ski slopes from Lyon.
